First Look! 2018 Ford F-150

Ford Motor Company made huge improvements with the mid-cycle face lift with the F-150 for model year 2018. With this refresh changes include a new front fascia across all trim levels, adjustments to the tail lamps and tail gate; as well as interior and exterior color additions and changes and a plethora of wheel chooses.

Mechanically there is an addition of a naturally aspirated 3.3 liter V6, along side the 2.7 and 3.5 Ecoboost V6 options, and the Coyote 5.0 V8. A 3.0 Liter diesel is scheduled to make an appearance within the model year, in limited production in select trim levels. Most all engine combinations will now come with a 10-Speed automatic transmission.

The 2.7 Liter Ecoboost paired with the 10 speed felt very confident and relatively spirited, although I missed the traditional growl of a V8 from a pickup truck.

In my limited time with this best selling pickup truck I really enjoyed the latest iteration of the Ford Sync with Apple CarPlay paired with an audio system from Bang & Olfsen with their B&O Play setup.

The new tail lamps for 2018 answers my cry to lack of rear visibility in upper trim with LED tail lamps. Previously the LED light pipe was only illuminated at the very top and bottom of the rear facing portion unless the brake lamps or turn signals were engaged. I never for the life of me understood why it was more visible from the side than the rear. This new tail lamp doubles its tail lamp surface space, which should help immensely.

The particular F-150 shown in these images is a 2018 F-150 Lariat with Sport package and the 2.7 Liter Ecoboost with 4WD which lands in the realm of $57,000. We’re really anxious to spend additional time with the 2018 F150 on our home turf in the near future.
